Pune is gearing up for the 2027 Pune Grand Tour with a massive civic investment: the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has sanctioned ₹167.25 crore to redevelop and resurface 135.8 km of roads, ensuring international‑standard infrastructure for India’s premier cycling race. The project will be executed in four packages across key city zones, blending sporting ambition with urban transformation.
🚴 A City Preparing for the Grand Tour
The Pune Grand Tour, first staged in 2025, was hailed as a landmark in India’s cycling calendar. With the second edition scheduled for January 26–31, 2027, PMC has moved swiftly to upgrade the race route. Of the total 135.8 km, 52.09 km were already redeveloped for the inaugural race, while 83.66 km of fresh stretches will now be resurfaced to meet Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) standards.
🛠️ Four Packages of Redevelopment
PMC City Engineer Annirudha Pawaskar confirmed that the project will be divided into four execution packages to ensure quality and timely completion:
- Package 1: Aundh, Baner, Pashan, University, Range Hills
- Package 2: Senapati Bapat Road, Kothrud, Karve Nagar, Sinhagad Road, Parvati Payatha, Sarasbaug, Khadakwasla
- Package 3: Central Peth areas, Shivdarshan, Gangadham, Kondhwa, Bhavani Peth, Camp, Yewalewadi
- Package 4: Bhairoba Nala, Magarpatta, Mundhwa, North Main Road, Vidhan Bhavan, Ganeshkhind Road, Fergusson College Road, Deccan
